The story of Song Fu Lee (Florence) at Barkerville Historic Town & Park

Did you know that at its peak, Barkerville Historic Town & Park had around 5,600 inhabitants, half of whom were Chinese that had migrated from California or directly from China? In this Gold Rush Trail storyteller series episode, we are introduced to Song Fu Lee (otherwise known as Florence), an interpreter at Barkerville who spends her time sharing with visitors what it was like for Chinese gold rush families. Here, while maintaining her beloved character, she tells us all about her family’s journey from Southern China as well as what life was like for them in the bustling town during the early 1900s.
